Grammy-nominated El Mundo chamber ensemble performs on Monday, March 16, at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room at Gateway (Note the location of this concert). El Mundo will present a program entitled “Bella Italia, Hermosa España” (Beautiful Italy, Beautiful Spain).
Dedicated to the chamber music of 16th through 19th century Latin America, Spain, and Italy, El Mundo recreates the distinctive Latin sound of the old and new worlds. World-renowned guitarist and lutenist Richard Savino leads this ensemble of the finest period instrument performers.
This program reflects the Italian, Spanish, and Latin American repertoire that El Mundo has explored for over 20 years, with selections from albums the ensemble has recorded. Among these is “The Kingdoms of Castille,” nominated for a Grammy in 2012 for Best Small Ensemble Performance. Led by Savino, the quintet of performers will include Jennifer Ellis Kampani, soprano, Adam LaMotte, violin, Scot Moore, violin, and William Skeen, cello.
This concert will take place in the Fireside Room at Gateway. Seating is limited so advance tickets are recommended. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rossmoorchambermusic.org for $25 with a nominal service fee. For payment by check, use the order form. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, depending on availability.
The Fireside lobby opens at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., Jonathan Bailey, board member, will facilitate an engaging conversation with the musicians as a prelude to the concert.
